How I Got My Start in Real Estate

When I was initially studying for my real estate license I wasn’t really expecting it to grow into my career. I decided to pursue a license because my family and I were looking for a home. We had worked with a few real estate agents and had decent experiences, but we often felt there was a lack of guidance and communication. I was in between jobs at the time, which led me to the idea of getting my own license. I decided it would give me the chance to better understand an industry that always appealed to me, and at the very least I could represent myself in my own home purchase. I always thought real estate was mostly about driving people around to look at homes, and although that is a part of the job, I quickly learned it was so much more.

Once I joined a team and began doing transactions I realized that real estate was actually all about people, and that’s when I fell in love with the job. Every transaction and every client’s needs are completely different. This makes practicing real estate more of a craft than an occupation. Things can change quickly during a transaction and as a realtor, you need to be able to apply your knowledge dynamically to keep everything moving forward smoothly. I truly enjoy this challenge.

Prior to being in the real estate industry, I was an elementary school teacher for several years. Helping other people and contributing to my community has always been important to me. I never thought that a career as a realtor would continue to offer me those opportunities. I’ve learned that as a real estate professional I am able to impact people’s lives in a very profound way. Buying a home is such an intimate and personal decision. I get to become a part of that decision and in doing so I learn so much about people. Many of my clients have become close friends as a result. Moving can be very challenging and emotional. Having someone there to process those emotions with you can be extremely beneficial. You need someone you can trust by your side to help guide you through the process and alleviate the worry during a time of stress. This can make all the difference when buying or selling a home.

Relationships are what real estate is all about. I value being a trusted advisor to my clients during their real estate transactions and I don’t take this lightly. Building trust with my clients is vital to creating long-lasting relationships. I’m truly looking forward to all of the people I have yet to meet as my career continues to grow, and all of the stories I will get to be a part of.
